Many are debating the preferred option to occupy the number 1 position in goal for the Arsenal. Stewart Robson has left many gooners bewildered, I imagine, by stating Almunia is a safer option than Given or Schwarzer.
Personally, I believe the end of the road is in sight for Big Al, purely because the lack of confidence not only he has in himself, but the defence have. In the 90th minute at Anfield having conceded a corner, there was a huge sense of nervousness defending and it got me thinking. Would a wise old head barking the orders (Schwarzer) organising his defence deal with these situations better? Or someone with the sheer ability or Given instil the confidence into the defenders minds that allows them to play relatively nerve free.
Now, don't get me wrong. I believe Shay Given to be a better keeper than Mark Schwarzer. However, I am of the opinion that Mark Schwarzer is ideally suited to Arsenal. This is due to his age and calming influence and his ability to guide the likes of Mannone and Szczesny into a promising career at the Emirates.
According to the Mirror, a deal for Schwarzer is in sight. For the sake of winning titles, let's hope it comes to fruition soon!
