Evening all. Hope you've had a great weekend. The thumping headache declares I most certainly have.
So we beat Birmingham 2-1. I haven't seen much of the game bar the highlights on Goals on Sunday. Infuriatingly enough, the guest on Goals on Sunday was none other than Birmingham's Roger Johnson. Anyone else sick of having an opponents player/manager on that sofa. A massive love in of the anti football kind truly kicks; ramblings of ''Arsenal don't like it in their faces'' and so forth. Meh.
Good news going into the game was the return of Walcott and Bendtner, albeit both were on the bench. Djourou came in for his first league start of the season, which is a nice 90 minutes to get under his belt.
This game was surrounded in controversy. A free kick was headed in by stand - in skipper Sebastien Squillaci, and funnily enough the linesman flagged for offside. Johnson himself admitted to be baffled by the decision. Top notch refereeing once again in the Premier League. As is the way with Arsenal, we conceded first. A brilliant cross was whipped into our box straight onto the head of 12ft7 Nicola Zigic. Whilst it's near impossible to beat that brute in the air, we should really be more alert closing off the crossing into him. Nevertheless, it was a smart header; leaving Fabianski with no chance.
More controversy followed as Chamakh was felled in the box. The Birmingham players protested furiously but to no avail. Penalty awarded. I've seen a few replays of the incident, and whilst believing it wasn't a dive, I am in the view of that the fall was exaggerated. Up stepped Samir Nasri to slam home the penalty. Nasri has been impressive this season, and it's good to see he's one of the main guys in the team. He really has matured, and with his partnership with Chamakh, things will be looking good.
We went into the half time break equal. Two minutes after the interval, we took the lead with a superb goal. Wilshere and Song linked up brilliantly, with the latter flicking the ball to Wilshere who threaded the ball through to Chamakh, evading the challenges of the Birmingham defence and rounding Foster to roll into the empty net.
From then on till the 92nd minute, I don't really know what happened. In the 92nd minute, an over zealous challenge by Jack Wilshere quite rightly ended with the youngster being shown a red card. Like many others, I wasn't surprised to hear. Jack Wilshere is a fiery player, and whilst he matures, he will learn how to curb that enthusiasm, much like skipper Cesc Fabregas.
Now for those of the media saying Arsenal having double standards, get a grip. Whilst reckless, Wilshere did not cause any trouble to the striker, and cannot be thought of in the same vein as that of Taylor and Shawcross. Partly because, the pair of them are a pair of cunts! Excuse the french please.
So after the dreaded interlull, we're back to winning ways. After both Chelsea and Man Utd drawing, it really is a good victory, regardless of the performance.
Apologies if this post doesn't make sense, still getting back into the swing of things mixed with a dreadful hangover (don't drink kids, it's not cool) means I'm not really switched on 100%.
On a different note, received lovely emails from readers thanking me for the work on this blog. And I appreciate that indeed.
Monday tomorrow, so have yourselves a bearable day at work.
Thanks for reading.
A crucial result really, if Arsenal are to overcome the points deficit then they must take advantage when Chelsea slip up, which they did this weekend. On to the two big games this week!
