Is the Premier League on the decline?

Morning all

That's a debate I've been having with many friends lately. Is it really the case?

For me, the Premier League is the most exciting league to watch. Technically, the La Liga is more enjoyable. But for passion, commitment (maiming people aside) the Premiership really is in a league of it's own.

But what of the players? After Wayne Rooney's shock transfer quest, it's hard for me to see past him staying in England. Of course, I could be wrong, but what if he packs up and moves to somewhere like Spain? For all his arrogant, cuntish behaviour, he is still one of the Premier Leagues stars. Forget his form for England, his form for Manchester United last season was world class. And while he current form has been poor, that old saying comes  true; ''form is temporary, class is permanent''.

With the inevitable departure of Cesc Fabregas to Spain, we seem to be losing our stars. Players such as Henry, Ronaldo, Alonso and Mascherano have all left England in recent seasons. All quality players for different reasons.

However, the Premier League still has that aura. As Fergie revealed, many players are contacting him for a move to United, and I'm sure that's the case for the top teams in England. What with the current economical state, I think it's easy to see England are suffering. When given the choice, players such as Mesut Ozil are choosing Spain ahead of England. And that's the worrying sign. We need to get back to drawing top quality players to our league.

Many of you will disagree with what I'm saying, and although it's still a wonderful league, I fear England is losing it's title of possessing the best league in the world.

A bit of a different blog today, but it's a topic which will hopefully cause alot of debate. Heated, but sensible debate! Look forward to hearing your views.

Thanks for reading, and have a good weekend where ever you are.

  1. Well, its not just quality which makes a league the best to watch and I think the energy and commitment of players, managers and fans in the Premier League make it a great league to watch. That's not to say though that the quality isn't there. I just think it seems like Spain have the edge at the moment because a lot of good players have gone there recently but that's not enough to tip the balance.
