In defence of El Capitan

So our captain, Cesc Fabregas, has come under fierce criticism from many sections of the media. He's been deemed unsportsmanlike for his reactions of late and has had a history of spiky moments shall we say.

But he is our captain. And we are bloody lucky to have him. Remember this summer, he was supposedly on his way out. Did he push for a transfer? Well no. Look at Carlos Tevez, Wayne Rooney and Fernando Torres. Even Andy Carroll. All loved by their fans, they handed in transfer requests and asked to leave the club. Did Cesc? Nope. He got his head down and got on with his career.

He may not be a typical Arsenal captain like Adams, organising the whole team. But he leads this team. He commands the respect of so many, and he is the shining light of this Arsenal project. When the team needs him, he steps up, he's shown that in the two FA Cup meetings at the Grove this season.

As you can see by this blog, Cesc Fabregas is my favourite player. A player who has it all. When he was appointed captain, I was delighted. Like I said, he isn't a Tony Adams or a Patrick Vieira. He's Cesc Fabregas. This team all know how to play football, and so don't really need a shouter in there as such. Well, in my opinion anyway. What Cesc does do is drive this team forward.

Like Jack Wilshere said on Twitter, Cesc is very protective of his players. It is very refreshing to have a foreign player come to Arsenal, and have such affection for the club and it's fans. Fabregas is a player who wears his heart on his sleeve, and this season he will become the first captain in a while to lift a trophy for the Arsenal. And I will bet my life savings (admittedly, not alot) that he will treasure every single second of it.

So, to the media, you can slate Cesc all you want. I couldn't care less. I am very proud to have Cesc Fabregas captain of my beloved Arsenal.

Thanks for reading.

  2. I coud't agree with you more. You can see the blatant bias by the media and yes, the refs against Arsenal perhaps because of the perception that it is a "foreign" team. Whenever you watch an Arsenal game you see the opposing players go for Cesc's legs rather than the ball and get away with. What's more they have the gall to turn around and ask for his shirt. Unbelievable!!

  3. The way Cesc handles himself on the pitch is a joy. Time after time he gets kicked, and cause of that he has an edge to him. Which isn't a criticism. He is a winner and has the makings to be such a great Arsenal captain.
