Feeling a wave of optimism

Afternoon all.

Pleased with some of the feedback i'm getting! Hopefully you'll see improvement in the coming months! Anyways, on to things Arsenal..

What struck me this year about Arsene is his ruthlessness regarding letting players leave. Admittedly, he held an unbreakable stance rejecting Cesc Fabregas' plea to leave. But with Eduardo leaving, letting Silvestre, Gallas, and Campbell leave, and Armand Traore on the verge of leaving, seems as though Wenger has let his head rule his heart. I firmly believe had we wanted to keep those trio of central defenders, we would have. The sale of Armand Traore makes sense in that his route to the first team is firmly blocked at left back or on the left wing. Jay Simpson and Nacer Barazite both seem to be on their way. Another good decision from the boss, and these youngsters are not good enough for the first team.

One barmy rumour, albeit from Goal.com, sees us getting Schwarzer in for 2million...plus Carlos Vela! What!? Yes, Vela had an average season disrupted by injury. But, he shown sparks of ability in the summer with his national team and by all means has had an impressive pre season. Added to the fact he's been upgraded to the #11 shirt, I think it's safe to say this is a no go!

Now, those coming in...

I think we're a cert to get a goalkeeper in. As stated in previous post', I believe the ideal keeper would be Mark Schwarzer. And with him handing in a transfer request, a move to the greatest team in club football seems to be inevitable. According to many media outlets, we have moved for Sebastien Squillaci, who plays for Sevilla. The fee mooted seems to be around the £6-7 million mark. For a player with his experience (20 caps for France and a wealth of Champions League game time), this seems a very reasonable price indeed. What annoys me about fellow gooners is they ask for money to be spent on average English players such as Gary Cahill or Phil Jagielka. I'll hold my hands up now and say I've not seen Squillaci play, but as a regular viewer of the Premier League, Cahill and Jagielka are by no means world class. Added to the fact the experience Squillaci brings, I know which defender I'd rather see in the heart of defence.

Interestingly enough, I read an article about Squillaci in which respected journalist Phillipe Auclair talks about the potential signing.

He’s an experienced player which is what Wenger would want for somebody to partner Thomas Vermaelen because Laurent Koscielny would be the number three [defender] at the club.
Now that is quite something. If this is true, I would feel much better going into the season. From the two games i've seen closely of Laurent Koscielny (Liverpool and AC Milan) he seems a class act! Having a defender of his ability as third choice, and Djourou as fourth choice, hopefully this will put an end to our dismal defensive record of seasons gone by. As it is at the moment, it is only rumours so wait until the official announcement on the Arsenal website.

Scouring over NewsNow, one link took to my liking. Alexander Hleb to join Tottenham. Is this the same Alexander Hleb pioneering for a move to the Nou Camp and San Siro whilst donning the famous red and white? How the mighty have fallen. Just goes to show, the grass isn't always greener leaving the Arse!

Have a good one, folks.
