Morning all
A bit of a heart wrench watching that on Monday. I felt as if we didn't even want to win it. Which is very disappointing. This was our game to stamp our authority, show a signal of intent.
Instead, we froze.
Our passing was slack, movement was minimal and the desire wasn't really pleasing watching on. We needed a team performance, with a few stand out individuals. We got neither.
Which got me thinking, maybe the psychological impact of going trophy-less for five years is playing on the players minds? In the past 18 months, how many big games have we won? It is a problem. And one I don't really know to fix.
Maybe a fine tune of the squad is needed. Alot of brilliant footballers, but perhaps we need something different, or just better players.
A weak spot in our team is for sure Left Back. One of my favourite players was Gael Clichy. I wasn't upset to see that prick leave for Chelsea because I felt assured we had a better replacement in Gael. We seen that for about a season and a half, until he conceded a penalty against Birmingham in Feb 08. Since that day, Gael has gone backwards. He is still a master of pinching the ball of the attackers foot, but everything else has taken a knock. His lack of concentration is a huge worry. And his crossing...well I think you's have seen for yourself.
Even more concerning, we have no viable back up for Clichy. Well we do have back up, if you want to replace Gael with Kieran Gibbs for about 20 minutes until he picks up his customary injury. In all seriousness, I honestly don't think we can rely on Gibbs, much the same way we can't rely on van Persie.
As much as I love this Arsenal side, change is needed I'm afraid. On the playing side. I don't think these players have the mental strength needed to challenge at the very top. It is very hard to adopt a winning mentality when we only have 2 winners to call of in our side (Clichy with the Invincibles, and Cesc with Spain).
Hope this wasn't too depressing for you to read, but this is only my opinion. You may disagree entirely with me. If so, would love to hear your views!
Thanks for your time
