Arsenal 3-0 Wigan; van the man is back

Morning all

It's those kind of performances that bring back the fear factor to the Emirates. We truly dismantled Wigan and from what I saw, 8-0 wouldn't have been an unreasonable scoreline.

Yes, many will point to the fact Wigan were very poor, but equally we were very good. We can only beat what is infront of us, and we done that. No complaints.

Last week we were all talking about Robin van Persie's return to form. Well he shown that he is well and truly back yesterday afternoon. A penalty horror miss aside, he was very good. When he is in full swing, he is just a joy to watch. I don't think I've seen a better player link up play from midfield to attack. He took all three goals superbly well, and I have to say, the more I see his second the better it gets. Quality written all over it.

In the first half how it managed  to stay at 1 nil I will never know. The Wigan keeper Al Habsi had an absolute stormer. How many times does a keeper have a stormer at the Grove? They just seem to raise their game, weird really. Alex Song slid in Robin van Persie who fired past the goalie. A nice goal and one we truly deserved. Theo Walcott should of doubled our lead when through on goal, he decided to square the ball for the onrushing Cesc Fabregas. In those positions Theo is usually deadly, so I'm not really sure why he decided to pass.

The goal which doubled our lead was awesome. A quick free kick fell to Cesc, who dinked a sensational pass into the run of van Persie who side footed his volley past Al Habsi. A really great goal from two spectacular players. For me, that killed the game off. Not that Wigan ever looked like getting into the game. It should have been 3 nil when Caldwell bundled Fabregas over in the box, with the Scotsman receiving a straight red. Harsh decision I feel but he was last man and what not. van Persie lined up the penalty, looking to win us three points. Well, that would be true if we were playing rugby. And rocket shot over the bar, and indeed the stadium. Horror miss but fortunately he was to get his hat trick minutes later. Fabregas played in Theo Walcott, and he held the ball up brilliantly for van Persie to hammer home with his right foot. Great finish. And truly excellent to see him get his first Arsenal hat trick. You could see how much it meant to him.

So a great performance, and alot of good performers. If Robin van Persie was man of the match (rightly so, in all fairness), then Alex Song ran him extremely close. For me, it is no coincidence our resurgence in consistent from has coincided with the form of Alex Song. He is a crucial player, his stability releases the shackles off of Fabregas and Nasri. When that happens, look at the play we come up with.

It carries are momentum on to Tuesday, hopefully another big performance from the boys. We are looking awesome just now, getting into full swing just in time. Robin van Persie is leading that case.

That's it for today, enjoy Super Sunday. Oh. Damn it.
