Arsenal vs Everton; on the face of it, a good deadline day for Arsenal

Well yesterday was pretty hectic wasn't it? The amount of money Liverpool were willing to throw about was beyond ridiculous. Of course they managed to part with £35 million plus on Newcastle's Andy Carroll. I don't know about you but I was really shocked at that move. That is such a huge gamble, Carroll may well turn into a brilliant player, but he may also turn into a one season wonder. Liverpool, having already signed Luis Suarez for £23 million, essentially replaced Fernando Torres with Carroll, a move I just can't get my head around.

Of course, good news for us I think is that Torres is now a Chelsea player. It is good news because Man United are yet to play Chelsea, and we know how difficult Vidic finds playing against the Spaniard. Still, £50 million for him is a heck of a lot of money, but unlike Carroll, is maybe justified.

Yesterday morning, I was desperate for a centre back. As the day went on, I was thankful for Arsene Wenger's sanity. In a transfer market where Andy Carroll is deemed to be worth £35 million, Gary Cahill must surely fetch £25 million. Bizarre. It was telling the two most experienced managers stayed clear of the mess yesterday. It is laughable though when managers like 'Arry decide to get involved, making a late bid for Charlie Adam when all day he was linked with strikers. It was like a junkie scrawling around for a fix. It was embarrassing to say the least.

Like many gooners I've spoken too, it left me feeling proud of our team, and indeed Arsene Wenger. In our transitional period, we were in the latter stages of the Champions League, the majority of the Cups and challenging the top four in the Premier League. We didn't need to go out and buy a couple of expensive players half way through the season to save our season. A testament surely to our players.

Amidst all the chaos, we do have a game tonight. A tricky encounter with Everton, at the Emirates. We are minus the injured Samir Nasri and the suspended Sebastien Squillaci. I think Denilson may have a slight knock too although don't hold me to that. For Everton, well they are minus the departed Steven Pienaar and possibly Tim Cahill, who represented Australia in the Asia Cup. We beat Everton at Goodison Park so we have the edge. Although, they do enjoy coming to the Emirates. It promises to be a good game.

As the games come thick and fast, winning is all that matters. Whilst we played poorly on Sunday, we won. That win takes us into the next game, and so on. We need to step up our title challenge, a win tonight is essential. I believe the boys we have are more than capable of doing that.

Thanks for reading.
