Well, in all my life watching football I have never experienced such a weird game in the Premier League. And of course, Arsenal were at the forefront of the drama.
Any team losing a four goal lead should be berated, so why not Arsenal? At 5 o'clock yesterday, I felt sick. I felt worse than the Tottenham defeat this season. All of our criticisms of our soft centre and lack of leadership yesterday was clear for everyone to see. If my amateur football team lost a four nil lead, I would be furious. For a world class club like Arsenal to surrender a four goal lead, it is simply unforgivable.
Yes, the referee didn't help. But we can't keep blaming the referee. Was it his fault Diaby lashed out? Was it his fault we didn't deal with balls in the box? To my level of thinking, no it isn't. It also doesn't excuse the fact that Phil Dowd is still a massive cunt.
So anyways, we started brilliantly yesterday. 3-0 up in 10 minutes was like the Arsenal of the Invincibles era. Theo Walcott scored a lovely opener before Johan Djourou headed in his first Arsenal goal. Nice build up play by Theo then found Robin van Persie to fire home the third. Robin van Persie got the fourth when he headed in a Bacary Sagna cross. 4-0 up at half time and game over...
Well, nope. Just after half time, Djourou got injured and replacing him was Sebastien Squillaci. To say that Squillaci is out of form is probably correct. His first five or six games for Arsenal I thought he was outstanding, so the talent is clearly there. But, right now, he is not Arsenal quality. Then came the red card. To be brutally honest, I think it was a fair challenge. He won the ball and momentum carried him through. If it were any other player, other than uber cunt Joey Barton, I don't think there would be too much of a fuss about it. Just my opinion of course. I don't blame Diaby for the manner in which he reacted. He has been on the end of some crunching tackles, some which have disrupted his career. But, for his wages etc, he should really know better.
When the first penalty went in, I turned to my mate and said ''I bet they go on to get an equaliser'' If I jinxed Arsenal in any way, I truly am very very sorry. The first was a penalty, Koscielny was all over him. The second was quite lucky in that the ball bounced between Best and Clichy, and landed perfectly for Best to side foot home. Now the third, what in the fucking hell. If that is a penalty, expect at least a penalty every time there is a corner or a free kick crossed into the box. Mental decision. By the by, Joey Barton duly stuck away each of the penalties. The fourth, to be fair, was a lovely goal by the impressive Cheik Tiote. And from the seems of it, it was deserved. We caved in, whilst Newcastle raised their game. What a turnaround. And what a collapse. If one game summed up ''a game of two halves'' then this was it.
A number of problems. The substitutions. Sebastien Squillaci was forced on, I'll take that. But I don't see what either Tomas Rosicky and Emmanuel Eboue give. I'm very disappointed in Rosicky lately. For a team who stood by him during his injury, he's not exactly repaying that faith is he? I'm sure we bought him as a goal threat. I hope he raises his game, because we will need him.
The one bizarre decision that stood out for me was the book of Wojciech Szszcesny. How does he get booked, for getting grappled to the floor. It was vaguely similar to the reaction of Abou Diaby, who received red.
To make matters worse, we have an interlull coming up. I hope the players remain focused. At 5 o'clock yesterday, I thought we lost the league title. Man Utd losing at Wolves is a big big plus for us. They have lost their unbeaten record and they have to regroup and recover, which the Invincibles struggled to do in a short time. Man Utd turned our point from horrific to not so bad, so we should thank them.
We're still capable of winning the league, but only just. We cannot afford any major slip ups. I hope this draw acts as a major kick up the arse for many of the players.
Now to enjoy a cracking day of football. Have a good one gooners.
If we don't take positives out of yesterdays capitulation against the toon then we really won't win anything this season.
ReplyDelete1) We did not lose a game where it was 10 against 12 (including the ref)
2) We are one point closer to united.
3) Man U Have still got a harder run in the Arsenal
4) The title is now a 3 horse race again, with Man city back in the hunt. Man U have two clubs chasing them down
5) We play the leagues bottom side in our next game so can bounce back with a win.
Very good points. I am an optimist but yesterdays performance should never happen again.
ReplyDeleteBut yes, next game is very vital. Bring it on!
