We needed to bounce back, and it's fair to say we did that. A hat trick from Bendtner, and a goal from Chamakh, ensured it was a good night for the Gunners. To my mind, it is still a long way off from forgetting Sunday, but they've made the first step, and the right step.
A host of changes, as expected were made. The likes of Denilson, Eboue, Gibbs, Squillaci and Almunia came in. The surprise inclusion was young Conor Henderson, who looked very good. Ignasi Miquel started his second game for us, and he is looking a fine prospect indeed.
We needed an early goal and we got that. Nice link up play between Henderson and Rosicky allowed the latter to jink his way into the box and set up Chamakh for his first goal since November. He's not played alot of games since then, but it's nice to get him back on the score sheet. Hopefully he has found his form infront of goal again. The second, and first of three for Bendtner, was a quality header reminiscent of the goal he scored at the Britannia Stadium last season. His second, just before half time, very much summed the Dane up. His first touch was awful, but he battled back for possession, cut in and curled a beauty into the bottom right corner. Lovely goal. He has those capabilities, but just now he is inconsistent. Wholly understandable. I'm a fan of Nicklas Bendtner, and I hope we hold on to him amid rumours he is leaving in the summer. He wrapped up his hat trick from the spot after half time, won by Kieran Gibbs making a dashing run into the box. The 5th and final goal of the night was from Gael Clichy, hammering in to the far corner, great finish from the left back.
I thought the Leyton Orient fans were brilliant, very noisy. I wouldn't have minded them getting a late goal, but I'm pleased they didn't. Would rather keep a clean sheet than show sentiment like that!
What does this result mean? Well, probably more than you'd think. We've won so soon after Sunday, showing no nerves which is good. We're through to the next round, where we travel to Old Trafford. It's about time we beat them up there. 4 goals for our strikers, who in Robin van Persie's absence are going to be crucial.
So, a great win. And here's to the next one on Saturday.
