A recap: Asia tour, Gervinho and Fabregas thoughts

Morning guys,

Haven't wrote regularly since March, about the time Arsenal decided to have their annual title challenge collapse it would seem. I hate writing negatively, so I decided to stay away from blogging.

I read other blogs regularly and admired their efforts on writing about our beloved Arsenal. The online media coverage surrounding Arsenal is huge, if you look on NewsNow you will find countless Arsenal blogs, all of a very high standard. I've disagreed with countless points fellow bloggers have come up, but obviously everyone is allowed their own opinion. At the end of the day, we all support the Arsenal and only want what's best for the club.

Right, enough drizzle...

Before I start, I'd just like to say how pleasing it was to see the success of the Asia tour. Arsene Wenger had his doubts, but I think he might be changing his mind to pre season schedules. We presented an opportunity Asian fans rarely get to see: watching the Arsenal live. I hope it opens the eyes of some, ahem Samir, regarding just how big Arsenal are. Incredible support in both Malaysia and China.

We played Cologne in Germany on Saturday which was a good work out. A first look at Gervinho, who started on the left side of the front free. How did he do? Well 2 goals in 30 minutes should tell you all you need to know. His first, a very good finish from a lofted Jack Wilshere pass. The second, a fox in the box finish from a Theo Walcott cross. He was substituted after a slight knock, nothing to worry about I'm sure.

I thought Jack Wilshere, once again, was superb. He started last season steady if unspectacular. Just learning game by game. Now, he is dominating the games, albeit pre season friendlies, with the creative swagger that came to the fore in the reserve team. His partnership with the returning Aaron Ramsey has all the makings to be something special, and one whch I think we will see an awful lot this season. Which is of course no bad thing at all.

We are getting to that stage now where Arsene said transfer activity hots up, so I'd expect a lot of movement to be happening soon. The likes of Emmanuel Eboue, Nicklas Bendtner and Manuel Almunia look to be gone, as does Cesc Fabregas. Now I know alot of you disagree with me, saying how Barca can't/won't afford him. I think it's clear Cesc wants to join Barcelona this year, and my gut instinct is he will go. If he stays, I'd be very surprised. Delighted, but surprised.

We will miss Cesc Fabregas, of course we will. But he won't be the first big player to have left us, nor will he be the last. We have always regrouped, and a new superstar is born. I see no reason why this will change.

Incoming players could be interesting. Arsene Wenger revealed a defender will be 'most certainly be joining' and I hope he's true. Those who follow me on Twitter (@IntricatePass) will know my desire to sign Gary Cahill. My reason? Well, he has a bit of everything. He is solid, good in the air, reasonably quick and can play the ball on the deck. I think he would be a brilliant signing, even for £17 million. He is at a young enough age to progress with us and become a mainstay in the heart of defence.

Tomorrow I will blog about Samir Nasri, one transfer saga is already enough to write about.

That's it for today, hope you like the changes to the blog.
