Morning all
I'm sure I said the other day that I'll leave the Cesc Fabregas saga alone for a while. Well here I am again, it just won't go away. A complete nightmare and one we need to do without.
Barcelona revealed they will be discreet about future dealings surrounding Cesc. What kind of sick joke is that? Is their meaning of discreet the same in which Peter Andre is discreet about telling the world how much he loves his children?
On the pitch, I have to say I love the way Barcelona play. Busquets and Alves aside, they are an honest enough team who work very hard as a team but also pass the ball around beautifully. They are the benchmark to reach for all clubs wanting to be the best.
The Champions League final versus Manchester United was special. They dominated that game. What made that more special for us gooners is that we beat them 2-1 at the Emirates, and also almost went through but for dodgy refereeing and a poor first touch. I still think we don't get nearly enough praise for the way we played in the first leg.
Their tactics in trying to get Cesc Fabregas is a complete lack of respect, and a huge amount of arrogance. If he belongs there then why did he leave in the first place? Arsenal moulded him into the superstar he is, and for that we deserve the best money available. If he stayed at Barcelona he could have easily ended up just like Bojan, not getting enough game time and moving on to Roma. So Barca, the least we deserve is respect.
My thoughts remain. Cesc Fabregas will go, but we won't get £40 million (the fee we're believed to be looking for). I think we will get closer to £35 million, and although that will feel like a loss in the short term, long term we might just feel the benefits.
If/when Cesc goes, we will no longer have the degree of uncertainty we face each summer. The players will not be wondering if their captain will be returning home. Ahh bliss.
Imagine if Patrick Vieira never left? Would Cesc Fabregas be as good as he is right now? I don't think so. His departure allowed game time for Cesc, and I can see the same happening here with Aaron Ramsey. He has had a terrific pre season so far, has looked sharp indeed. I'm one of the supporters who feel we do not need a direct replacement for Cesc Fabregas.
Moving on, and players are erm, moving on. Jay Emmanuel-Thomas seems set to join Ipswich Town. Hopefully Paul Jewell will get JET to knuckle down and sort out his attitude. The talent is no doubt there. I wish him all the best.
It seems as if we're offloading players first before bringing more players in. It's exciting, isn't it?
Isn't it!?
