Again it's been a while since I last posted. Wish a Happy New Year to each and everyone of you. It's about time I put aside this flu and get back to blogging on a regular basis.
I last wrote after the Chelsea game, and what a performance that was. It was followed up with a draw at Wigan, but under the circumstances, it wasn't all that bad. 7 out 9 from Birmingham, Chelsea and Wigan is no easy feat and we have performed admirably over the festive season.
The game against Birmingham showed great maturity. When the Ginger One set out his team to kick the shit out of us, added to the fact we've recently struggled at St Andrews, it was always interesting to see how we would coped. And we coped brilliantly. You know a team is set out to kick the Arsenal when in the opening stages a brutal tackle occurs. Think Eduardo and Martin Taylor. Well this time it was Roger Johnson who almost snapped Cesc Fabregas' leg. He even then had the nerve to slate Fabregas' reaction, instead of holding his hands up. CUNT! Well karma is a wonderful thing as he scored an own goal as well as missing a sitter.
We started pretty well and the opener came from a Robin van Persie free kick. I like how the ESPN punditry team tried saying it was a dive and that it is only common in the foreign players. Look at Ashley Young, Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard to name a few. It was a soft free kick, but it was a free kick. And to make things better, RvP stuck it away with the help of Bowyers hand. 1-0. Robin van Persie had a very weird game. His link up play was good, his finishing was poor. He could also have conceded a penalty but we have to admit we got away with that one. The second was an absolute beauty. Samir Nasri and Fabregas linking up was just a joy to watch. Their partnership reminded me of Iniesta and Xavi, they both knew where the other was and the passing was so crisp. The move ended with Nasri finishing into the bottom corner. That boy can do no wrong. 13 goals this season, a great achievement and with no signs of his form ending soon. The third is somewhat overlooked due to the finish. The play was absolutely dazzling yet again. One reverse rule pass from Nasri from about 6 yards dumped one of the Brum players on their arse. Always fun to see. Fabregas then smashed the ball at Foster. Not content with watching our silky passing, the Birmingham defenders then proceeded to join and pass the ball between them and finish the move of themselves. 3-0. A clean sheet. A mature performance. Can't really complain!
My view on the festive period (Arsenal wise) was that we wouldn't have performed at St Andrews had we not dropped so many for the Wigan game. The work ethic was fantastic. Not many teams can live with us at that standard and we are coming into great form at the right time of the season.
Another big game tonight at the Emirates. City are still a team of individuals, and not many at that. Silva has impressed, but he is out of tonights game. Balotelli has shown glimpses, but tonight he is also injured. Two players we need to look out for are Tevez and Yaya Toure. But with the form of Song and Djourou, I am not in the slightest worried.
Play like we did against Birmingham and Chelsea, and I really do think we can beat anyone. We hassled and harried the opposition. We need to keep that standard consistently. Work as a team. It's time to show the league another signal of our intent. Let's make sure we back the boys.
Bring it on!! Thank you for reading, as always feedback is welcome.
