Morning all
Bit of a dull one today. After writing yesterday how the mentality has to be right, Arsenal got it completely wrong. The fans can be over confident of a result, that's mainly their job. But the players? Something isn't right with that.
If you didn't know, we lost 1-0. And deservedly so. We were awful. It's like the players didn't know they were playing for a place at Wembley. And given the aggro we get for not winning trophies, I was truly disappointed. Alot of these players aren't impressing when given the chance.
Bar the keeper, the two centre backs and maybe Theo and Jack to some extent, the players just strolled through this game. Eboue, is becoming a joke. The way he dives to win free kicks is not the Arsenal way. One time he cut inside the attacker, contemplated diving, and in doing so lost the ball. Could of been oh so costly. Denilson isn't a defensive midfielder. Yesterday his passing was off key, but he doesn't have the awareness to break up play like Alex Song does.
Niklas Bendtner, a player who I rate, can have no reason to wonder why he doesn't get a game. When he's given the chance, he doesn't take it. On Saturday he played wide right, and I was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt. This time he played through the middle. Well, he was suppose to be. Every time he laid the ball off, he wouldn't bust a gut to get into the box. Disappointing. Andrey Arshavin is having a hard time lately, he is severely lacking confidence. I do believe he will be back, it will just take a typical wonder goal for him to be smiling again. But right now, he is gash.
So many disappointments last night. It leaves the tie wide open. We now have to play our strongest team. This second team, if you like, just don't do it for me. Hopefully Sagna will be back in time and Song will need to start. I'd also be tempted to give Chamakh and/or Robin van Persie a start. We are gonna have to forget about the tough schedule for the minute and go for the jugular.
Watching last night, it became apparent that Samir Nasri is now probably the most important player in the team, such is his quality.
If our strongest team play in the second leg, then that team should play the final if we win. The replacements don't deserve a show piece event, and also they cannot be trusted. Harsh, but that's what is going through their minds right now. We just need to turn up to win games. Clearly, boys, we don't. I want the team that played Chelsea to play Ipswich. That is the standard set.
It is time the understudies realised that.
Thanks for reading, hope it wasn't too depressing.
