Morning all,
Just when we are all crying out for a centre back, we look set to sign a brilliantly creative player in Juan Mata. The fee being banded about seems to very from £13 million to £22 million. No Mata (sorry) the price, I'm sure he will be a great signing.
So, does Juan Mata replace Cesc Fabregas or Samir Nasri? I think it will work like this:
Juan Mata will occupy Samir Nasri's position out wide, and Samir Nasri will drop in for Cesc Fabregas. My dream scenario would the purchase of Juan Mata, a Spaniard, is enough to keep Cesc at Arsenal, and so stays. We then take £20 million for that greedy fuck Samir Nasri and move on. Dream scenario though, mind.
Juan Mata excites me. I love the signing of a flair player, and having seen Mata dominate the U21 World Cup, I think he will be a brilliant player. Signing him would also send out a message to rivals. I'm sure Barcelona and Real Madrid would love to have him, but I believe a clause in his contract states a Spanish club must pay more than a foreign team.
On to all things centre back, and it looks like our top priority has shifted to Phil Jagielka. It's an interesting one. He is almost 29 years old, not a typical age Arsene looks to sign players. But maybe he realises we need an older head at the back, and although I'd prefer Gary Cahill, I'd be delighted with the signing of Jagielka.
According to excellent North Bank Lower, we are set to increase our bid to land the Everton defender. North Bank Lower first came out with the Jagielka story a day before the press, so he seems like a trusted source.
The Emirates Cup this weekend, and maybe our squad is now starting to take shape. Maybe we will unveil a couple of signings!
thanks for reading.
